Bata Atha. Botanical Garden
The Ministry of Agricultural Development opened the Agro-Technology Park in Bata Atha, the second in Sri Lanka, in August 2014. The total investment in the project amounted to an impressive amount of 25 million rupees.
Within this project, about 100 hectares were given to the Agro-Technology Park and the Open-Air Botanical Garden in order to attract tourists to the country, thereby developing local and traditional agricultural resources.
At present Bata Atha
provides any knowledge of modern agricultural machinery for farmers, visitors, with an emphasis on the education and education of foreign tourists, schoolchildren and students. The total area of the botanical garden in Bata Atha is about 190 hectares and this natural park is used for planting grasses, bushes, flowers and trees. Here they also produce seeds to meet local needs.
In Bata Atha
only ecological methods of planting and caring for plants are used, without chemical fertilizers and poisons. In the park grow as new trees, and endemic, untouched by planting plants, flora and fauna. Plants are cultivated in decorated flower beds and on designer sites. This gives not only fabulous views of the garden, but also provides an opportunity in a beautiful and accessible form to learn more about nature.
In the Botanical Garden there are over 2,000 employees — scientists, landscape designers, agronomists, and landscaping workers.
In the long term, it is expected that near the agro-technological complex of Bata Atha
there will be shopping malls where they will sell local vegetables and fruits growing in the southern region, and the agricultural department of Sri Lanka will build its trade pavilion right in the park.
There are five lakes on the territory of the botanical garden and agro-technological park. The lakes are cleaned, and the adjacent territories are modernized and converted into small recreation parks, allowing visitors to stop during a botanical garden survey and simply enjoy stunning views and lush vegetation.
In the park, this year it is planned to finish the construction of traditional structures, such as the Sinhalese loft for storing vegetables and rice, the House of Clock, «Kamatha» and «Chen». All this will visually tell visitors about local traditional methods of farming. The garden of herbs and spices is a separate and unique asset of the Bata Atha Garden
. The government separately paid attention to traditional medicine — Ayurveda
. And now in the garden grow all possible and known types of spices and herbs. This is another unique advantage of the Bata Atha Botanical Garden
. The second such section of spices and herbs not only in Sri Lanka, but also in Asian countries, simply does not exist.
Now the garden collection is thousands of species and varieties of plants, trees, flowers, herbs and shrubs from around the world. Of particular interest you will certainly call the Orchid Lodge and a collection of variegated flowering plants. Orchids conquer everyone, even relatively indifferent to the colors of the visitor. The peculiarity of the collection of Bata Atha
is that in the Orchid House you will see many local species of orchids that are no longer found anywhere else in the world.
Where else you can see first hand how mangoes, coconuts, rambutans, lychees, pineapples, tamarinds, guavas and dozens of other tropical fruit trees grow! For lovers of the best beauty of the plant world — this is a real paradise.
