Noel Rodrigo’s Leopard Safaris
Our exclusive, highly respected and reputable Partner presents at Lankarus
a line of environmental and of niche tourism in National Parks of Sri Lanka
, as the most top operator of the relevant service, which is evaluated and recognized as the leading experts in the field of tourism around the world.
The Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris
project began as a hike for friends led by Noel Rodrigo
, who discovered his passion for the wild while still a teenager. He realized that he would like to share his interest and knowledge with like-minded people. It was long before he started hiking professionally.
Noel founded Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris
in 2006 and did not look back. What started as a small organization with just one jeep and several tents is now fully thriving, and the experience of campsites in several National Parks
is confirmed by the awards and recognition of visitors from all over the world who come to stay in the camps. With an outdoor setting, star meals, drinks and professionals heading the expedition to the heart of Sri Lanka, Noel noted Sri Lanka on the world map as the premier destination for adventure in the wild.
In order to protect the nature reserves in which the company operates, Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris
supports desert zones and wildlife purposefully, and also helps collect research on leopards in Sri Lanka and donates money to the protection project leopards.
Eco-policy of the company, individual service and a propensity for quality earned rave reviews on TripAdvisor, as well as worldwide recognition in the media. Lankarus
has the honor to be a trusted Partner of Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris
, representing its interests and offering a service both in Sri Lanka's domestic market and around the world.
Our Green Mission
is committed to reducing carbon emissions, conserving the natural resources in which we operate, and protecting wildlife. Our goal is to give guests a unique and comfortable experience that would not harm the parks. We do not hurt anything when we break tents, and we leave nothing when we pack and take away tents. Everything, from food and human waste, each canvas and tent is packed and removed from the park when the safari ends. Our passion for tracking and protecting the wildlife of Sri Lanka is what makes us Number One among the safari operators of Sri Lanka.
Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris
offers camps in two different parks — Yala
— each specifically. It is chosen to give you a unique opportunity to look into the amazing world of Sri Lanka's wildlife.
Our packages are a All Inclusive

Yala National Park
is the place where everything started for us. This popular and well-established National Park is widely known as the top park, and which has one of the highest leopard densities in the world! Distributed along the southeastern coast of Sri Lanka
, Yala is the second largest National Park of the island and the center for nature research. Its immense diversity of ecosystems, such as rocky outcrops, coastal areas, savannahs, wetlands and forests are home to a variety of mammals, birds and reptiles. For those who are in search of a leopard — there is no better place than this.
Our camping in Yala
is located in a picturesque place, which makes it an ideal base for experience with Noel Rodrigo's Leopard Safaris
. This place was specially chosen because of its natural beauty and conveniently shaded areas of the forest that keep the temperature inside the tents cool, which gives you some much needed breathing space from the sun! In addition, there is no shortage of wildlife inside the camp, and you can wake up to the sound of singing tropical birds in the morning. Trees are a home for the abundance of birds, however, and you can often see monkeys, chipmunks and squirrels running through the canopy as regular guests of this place.
Given its isolation, the camp is blissfully quiet, and the air here is noticeably fresh. You can really experience a unique experience in the twilight, when the sunset floods the entire sky with color, or at night when the sky is free from any artificial light and completely illuminated by stars.
Note: sometimes during the wet season we offer an alternative camp.
Wilpattu National Park
is the largest national park in Sri Lanka, almost untreated route for tourists. After many years of civil war, it was once again open to tourists just a few years ago, and remains largely untouched and unmistakably a wild area after all the years of isolation. The number of leopards in the park is still unknown, but these animals are very common. The absence of crowds leads to almost private views of the wildlife, and the topography of Wilpattu, which mainly consists of lakes, is a receptacle of the colorful range of aquatic birds.
Our campsite in Wilpattu is in an excellent location for viewing wildlife and makes a scenic base for the Leopard Safaris
camping just unique. This place was specially chosen because of its natural beauty, spacious and open space, which is ideal for observing wildlife. The lining areas in the shady forest that cover the area where the tents are located, keep the temperature tolerable!
Wilpattu is still quite an unknown place for tourists, so camping is quite isolated. Expect to hear only the sounds of an endless nature — the singing of birds, lulling you or waking up in the morning. Here, monkeys communicate with each other as they rush through trees. Far in the jungle is fresh air, and on a cloudless day you can be impressed by the picturesque paints of the colorful sunrise. The colors of the sunrise are reflected in the lake. And at night here is an array of constellations in a clear sky.
Please note: sometimes during the wet season we offer an alternative camp.
Mobile Canvas Tents
We use a South African canvas that makes the tents completely mobile to provide minimal damage to our precious environment.
There are various options for tents to suit everyone: the choice between single and double tents, triple and family tents. We can also add a baby cot to the tent for young children.
Your tent comes fully with all the amenities — a double bed (or 2 single beds for a double tent), as well as fresh linens. All tents are also protected from insects and rainwater penetration, and include a living room with armchairs, a privacy zone, storage space for clothes, towels, a small night table, a mirror, water bottles, and solar-powered lighting. Outside the tent there is your personal bathroom, which includes a private shower in the open air with cold and hot water and complete with a changing area and a wash basin. Your washable sit-down toilet is attached to the living room of your tent, so you do not have to leave the tent at night.
Our tents are ideal to let you enjoy and preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings, without compromising on comfort. When using renewable energy sources and unstable structures, we help to save the environment by supplying you with a unique and unforgettable camping experience.
Tent Suite Lodge(in the Yala camp)
If you do not want to miss a single detail of a real wild experience in the bosom of nature, and you just need a little extra comfort to sleep peacefully at night, our new African style tent can be an option for you.
Stylish wooden furniture of unusual shape, Sri Lankan antiques, air conditioning and a bathroom with hot and cold water. You will fall asleep to the sounds of frogs and crickets, which will give you a truly luxurious feeling of staying in a natural camping. Private space and a deck for relaxation with the possibility of dining experience by candlelight will make you feel even more exclusive, which makes camping ideal for honeymooners.
After the development of our eco-concept, the deck and all furniture are made from discarded and recycled wood, and a well-thought-out ventilation system saves up to 60% energy on air conditioning. All power supply comes from solar energy, and you make sure that you stay in comfort every minute of rest.
Life in Wild Nature
is a tropical country with a variety of environmental conditions that offer an equally wide range of wildlife. With numerous representatives of the flora and fauna of the endemic species of the island, Sri Lanka boasts a unique diversity, and, in abundance.
Two main Sri Lanka's National Parks
— offer a total protected area of more than 2300 square meters. km. (230,000 ha), and boast a staggering amount of wildlife. Yala is recognized as one of the highest leopard density in the world. Wilpattu is one of the best places on the island to discover many deer and bears. In both parks you can also often see deer, wild boars, monkeys and buffaloes. But these are not the only mammals that dominate the National Parks.
Sri Lanka's reserves are also home to a variety of birds numbering more than 400 recorded species, including 33 species of endemic birds. Reptiles here in no less impressive number and variety of species. Many lakes and rivers that give life to Parks are also home to crocodiles. The shoreline brings the endangered sea turtles. Here grow a variety of herbs, there are dry open plains and jungles, densely populated by tropical lizards, snakes, frogs and insects.
Visiting the Park with help of naturalists on our custom jeeps Toyota Land Cruiser, you will experience a unique thrill of interaction with the beautiful wildlife of Sri Lanka, which is so close and personally yours!
is influenced by one two monsoons that penetrate the island from different parts. During the dry season, the number of water bodies within the parks is small, which means that some animals are easier to find, which makes dry time an excellent period for safari viewing. During the rainy season, there are more aquatic animals, but the precipitation will not prevent you from seeing the wildlife.
The rainy season is actually the best time to see birds and elephants. Parks are most beautiful this season, when rivers and frequent rains breathe life into landscapes, and lush green vegetation and garlands of seasonal flowers become a magnetic spectacle. If you have come during the rainy season, be sure that the weather should not weaken your experience. Rains are frequent, but, as a rule, only for an hour or so a day, as a result of which the bad weather quickly gives way to the sunny sky. Our tents are completely watertight and we are well adapted to this weather.
Keep in mind that Weather in Sri Lanka
can be unstable and the seasons are constantly changing. But the weather is unpredictable, so be prepared for anything!

What to do in the cam
Two safaris a day on our specialized jeep safari Toyota Land Cruiser will take you right into the heart of the wild. It is widely recognized that Sri Lanka is the best place in the world, such a «capital of leopards» in order to look for this beautiful and rare animal, along with the colorful range of other wild animals.
The open skies of Yala, as well as the lack of artificial lighting in Wilpattu, will make them ideal places to view constellations. Eating outdoors under the huge dark firmament of the sky, in the illumination of thousands of shining stars is an especially memorable experience.
Walks in the wild
Walk around the camp gives you the opportunity to view everything in person and close: tiny insects, monkeys play on trees overhead, shoots and flowers of small plants, traces of animals. These small details, which so often go unnoticed, can sometimes be the most beautiful of all.
Relaxation with a good book
Hammocks are threaded around the camp in the most picturesque and quiet places, and it would be difficult to find a quieter place of reading. Expand your knowledge of parks and their inhabitants with the help of books in our library of wildlife, start your holiday with knowledge from books, or just watch the nature and wild animals around you.
Amateur Photo Hunt
Take a walk through the camp with one of our photo-hunting experts to find out how to get the most out of your camera. They will give you some tips and show shooting techniques to make sure that your photos will match your experience and the quality of the safari. Available for children and adults, free of charge.
Drinks around the fire
Gather around the fire in the evenings to enjoy our assortment of international drinks from our jungle bar. To the sounds of the jungle around you and the bonfire pours a romantic icing over the natural environment, you can not escape the charm of this unique experience by being in the jungle at night.
Camping in the heart of Sri Lanka's National Parks gives you an excellent opportunity to observe the birds. Relax in a hammock with binoculars or just listen to the sounds of blissful birds singing around. In our library about the wild, there are many books about birds to help you determine which ones you see.
Definition of animals
Our handy identifiers and knowledge will make the definition of wildlife pretty easy when you notice someone during a jeep safari. Just ask the safari guides accompanying you and they will be happy to stop and start watching along with you, so that you will know exactly what or whom you saw.
